Formed in Buffalo, New York, in 1986, the Goo Goo Dolls developed from punk and alternative roots into a widely recognized pop-rock band. Singer and guitarist John Rzeznik and bassist and vocalist Robby Takac have led the group through a career spanning more than three decades and a catalog of over a dozen studio albums.
The band's landmark 1998 album, Dizzy Up the Girl, features enduring songs including “Iris,” “Slide” and “Black Balloon.” Other notable releases include A Boy Named Goo, with “Name,” and Gutterflower, which includes “Here Is Gone” and “Big Machine.” Their 2022 album, Chaos in Bloom, added newer material to a set of songs that continues to connect with longtime listeners and newer fans alike. “Iris,” a signature ballad, became especially prominent after appearing in the film City of Angels.
The Philadelphia date is billed with Def Leppard and The Struts; the supplied event information does not specify set times or the order of performances. The Goo Goo Dolls' melodic, guitar-led songs and well-known choruses make for a lively arena experience, with “Iris” often creating a communal singalong moment at their shows.
